When moving to Malaysia, should you choose sea freight or air freight?

2023-05-16

When moving to Malaysia, both air freight and sea freight have their respective advantages and disadvantages. The choice

of transportation method should be based on the actual situation of the items being moved. Our company has been committed

to providing professional door-to-door, one-stop international transportation services for personal items for many years.

We sincerely offer tailored transportation solutions for Malaysia for a wide range of clients, including students, foreign teachers,

accompanying relatives, enterprises, and individuals moving abroad. Our services cover international luggage consignment and

door-to-door moving services to various parts of the world. Here are the pros and cons of air freight and sea freight for moving to Malaysia:

Air Freight for Moving to Malaysia:

- Time: The normal transportation time for air freight during a move to Malaysia is generally between 7 and 14 days, including the time

for loading, transportation, customs clearance, and delivery. The actual transportation time depends on the destination of the move.

- Volume:Air freight has certain requirements for the volume and weight of items. The cargo hold of an aircraft has a relatively lower

load capacity compared to that of a ship. Generally, the weight of a single item should not exceed 70 kg. The sum of the length, width,

and height of the items should not exceed 420 cm, with the longest side not exceeding 150 cm and the second-longest side not exceeding 75 cm.

- Cost:Air freight is relatively more expensive than sea freight when it comes to moving costs.

Summary: If the items being moved to Malaysia are few in quantity, small in volume, and do not include furniture or

overweight goods, and if there is an urgent time requirement, air freight is a better choice.

Sea Freight for Moving to Malaysia:

- Time: The transportation time for sea freight of personal items to Malaysia generally depends on the distance between

countries or regions. If the two countries are located on different continents, the transportation process typically involves

the following three stages:

  1. Packaging and customs clearance of personal items at the origin, followed by waiting for the next available ship, which

usually takes about one week.

  2. Sea transportation time, which generally takes about 4 to 6 weeks.

  3. Customs clearance, handling, and loading/unloading at the destination port, which usually takes about 1 to 2 weeks.

For transportation within the same continent or between neighboring continents, the time can be halved.

- Volume:Although sea freight takes relatively longer than air freight, it has no restrictions on the size and weight of

the items being transported.

- Cost: The transportation cost is relatively cheaper compared to air freight.
